About

Jory Garner is a contemporary ceramic artist and painter working from a studio set on the edge of Rye Harbour nature reserve in East Sussex. Finding inspiration in the sea, the marsh and the skeletons of abandoned structures lining the shore, Jory draws on a creative vocabulary that encompasses the history, topography and emotional resonance of the landscape, striving to convey a sense of place, both the seen and unseen.

Layers of meaning combine with layers of slip and glaze on clay; oil and mixed media on canvas. Materials are applied over a period of time, often worked and reworked extensively, vessels undergoing multiple firings, until balance is achieved. The process is meditative and evolves naturally, elements finding their place as each piece is resolved.

Jory has exhibited in the UK and France with work in collections both at home and internationally.
